"FP7 and Asia: building research bridges for a sustainable future" (European Parliament )

On 19 July, the European Commission under its 7th Research Framework Programme launched its next call for proposals for research in Asia. This call is a great opportunity to increase EU-Asia research co-operation in a number of fields. It holds a sizeable budget being backed by 8.5 billion EUR while the next planned call in July 2012 holds 9.3 billion EUR. In this context, this event aimed to highlight the great opportunities offered by this upcoming FP7 call for proposals while allowing former participants from European and Asian companies as well as research institutes to share their experience gained from this FP7 programme. In addition, the broader context of EU-Asia co-operation in the research field was discussed in order to identify any potential bottlenecks that are hampering successful collaboration and possible policies that are needed to ensure greater common efforts in R&D take shape.
