Background

The EU Association of the Kagawa Prefecture was established in 1989 and gathers the Prefecture’s businessmen interested in the EU. Its President is Mr. Kazuo Mitani, Managing Director of the Hyakujushi Bank and its Secretariat is managed by the local Keizai Doyukai Association. The Kagawa EU Association supports every year the EU School event and received recently a group of children from a French village.

On the occasion of their annual General Meeting, the Kagawa EU Association invited a guest speaker and organised an official dinner.

Meetings with the Governor of Kagawa Prefecture, the mayor of Takamatsu city and the press.

Managing Director Takashima and Deputy Editor Izumikawa of Shikoku Shimbun interviewed Mr Guerrier and attended the conference. They published an article in the next day edition of this newsletter (see attached). Mr Guerrier had a formal meeting with Governor Manabe, who expressed wishes for reinforced EU-Japan cooperation and cross-investment, and a lunch with Takamatsu mayor Onishi and representatives of the business community, who underlined their participation in the “Japon Expo” held in Paris recently and the links of their city with twin-cities in Europe.

This year, the Delegation of the Commission asked Mr Guerrier to attend the Kagawa EU Association’s annual General Meeting and to discuss EU-Japan Industrial Cooperation. Most questions revolved around opportunities for EU-Japan cooperation on Asian markets and the issue of standards and interoperability.
