Data compliance and IT (Seminar)

Compliance refers to systems which are put in place by corporations to ensure that personnel take steps to follow every relevant laws and regulations (such as the recently introduced privacy law in Japan).
The first part of this seminar identified current compliance regulations, their purposes and their aspirations in relation to the Sarbanes-Oxley act, which spurred a number of compliance and regulatory measures worldwide. The speakers shed light on the difficulties companies face in managing their data and show how it affects their IT infrastructure.
The second part focused on the role of the IT department in implementing compliance using processes, technologies and methods necessary to make sure that company data is properly handled.
Compliance regulations have an impact on all IT related areas such as storage, security and availability. Terms such as data classification and life-time storage will require far-reaching changes to today's information systems and bring challenging tasks to their management.
The speaker also explained why CIOs in charge of corporate IT systems will have to carry an increased burden of responsibility for the management of their organizations’ data.
