16/09/2004 - Tokyo, Japan
Security hazards of modern communication (Seminar)
This seminar provided a practical understanding of security hazards and risks involved in electronic communication for foreign companies operating in Japan. In particular, the seminar concentrated on explaining - in layman’s terms - how Computer viruses and Spam mail operate in IT environments built around the following systems:
- ADSL/DSL connection
- Firewalls
- VPN networks
- Wireless routers
- Mobile phones
New computer viruses appear every day, and most users of PC are aware of such problems, but this does not imply that everyone takes sufficient precaution. As a result, computer viruses are causing increasing damage. Computer analysts estimate that over 80% of all email traffic consists of Spam mail. Again, most people know what Spam mail is but fail to recognize the nature and impact of the threat to their business.
The presentation discussed the current situation + trends and explained how PCs and company networks could be properly protected. Participants should be familiar with the basics of PC's (no specialized knowledge required) as the seminar targeted a broad business audience. The seminar lasted for 1 hour with ample time for Q&A.
