日本語でのご案内は本ページ右上の[日本語]をクリックしてください。 The EU and Japan are major trading and investment partners who see cooperation on regulatory issues as a way of tackling the similar challenges they face: the global economic crisis, aging populations, the need for new industries, climate change, ensuring a strong global trading system and competing with emerging economies. In July 2008, the EU-Japan Business Round Table, a forum of 46 top executives of major EU and Japanese companies, welcomed progress made in recent years to develop trade and investment flows between the EU and Japan, but called for even closer cooperation in the future, with higher-level and more effective regulatory dialogues. In February, top officials from the EU and Japanese Authorities hold the latest round of "EU-Japan Industrial Policy Dialogue" discussions. On Tuesday, 17 February - on the eve of their talks - a seminar brought together senior business figures and representatives of the EU and Japanese Authorities to discuss the nature and scope of future economic cooperation. It included keynote addresses from the Vice-Minister for International Affairs at the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry and from the Director-General of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Trade and a panel discussion ensuring a constructive and substantial exchange of views between senior industrialists and representatives of the Authorities. |
