Business Strategy: Towards a Mutual Understanding of European and Japanese Practices

On 17-18-19 November 2010, the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, with the support of Centre Européen d'Etudes Japonaises d'Alsace CEEJA, organised an intercultural seminar “Business Strategy: Towards a Mutual Understanding of European and Japanese Practices†at the CEEJA premises in Kientzheim (Alsace, France), with workshop facilitators from a Japanese management consulting firm based in Europe, Japan Management Association Consultants - JMAC .
The instructor is the Japanese CEO of JMAC Paris.
The main objectives of the seminar were:
* To learn tools and techniques for developing a business strategy such as Market Analysis, Competitor Analysis, Strategy Option Development, etc.
* To share and reflect on specific European and Japanese factors in developing a business strategy.
* To practice strategy development in group work, using a case study.
The seminar highlighted the main business strategy techniques, applicable to both European and Japanese practices. It dentified potential solutions through lectures, case-study discussions, role-plays and problem-solving activities.
The seminar brought together European and Japanese managers based in Europe, interested in improving their business strategy skills regardless of cultural differences. The audience gathered about 13 EU and Japanese participants from both EU and Japanese companies. All the participants expressed very positive feedbacks that the exercise was very helpful for their daily business activities.
