Vulcanus in Japan Final Reporting Session and Farewell Reception ()
Date: 26 August 2010
Venue: Eu-Japan Centre, Tokyo, Japan
The final reporting session of the "Vulcanus in Japan 2009-2010" was held at the EU-Japan Centre in Tokyo on 26 August 2010 with 45 Vulcanus students and 24 guests from 12 host companies. The European students participating in the programme reported in Japanese about their achievements during their year in Japan.
After the reporting session, a farewell reception was held at the Delegation of the EU to Japan, with speeches by Mr. Stefan HUBER, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Delegation of the European Union to Japan, and by Mr. Hidehiro MURAMATSU, Director of the European Division at METI.
The Vulcanus students received their diploma in presence of representatives of the host companies, Member States Embassies, European Chambers of Commerce, METI, JETRO and other organisations. The representative of a host company, Akebono Break Industry Co, intervened to underline the growing success of the Vulcanus programme in enhancing technical and scientific cooperation between the EU and Japan: “Thanks to the well-thought and weel-organized Vulcanus programme and a good preparation of the students before them joining their host company, including a 4 month intensive language course and an introduction to Japanese culture, history, industry, economy and society, the Vulcanus students are able to adjust to the Japanese company's environment smoothly. Akebono started hosting Vulcanus students in 2004, one student every year. They all proved to be outstanding trainees. We doubled the number of Vulcanus students to 2 in 2009 in recognition of their hard work and contribution to the company. This year’s students were excellent, built good relations with their colleagues and delivered impressive work contributions. We therefore decided to take 3 students for Vulcanus in Japan 2010-2011. We look forward to our continued collaboration with the EU-Japan Centre in the future.” H.E. Dr. Lubomir TODOROV, Ambassador of Bulgaria, raised his glass to the importance of the programme for the development of EU-Japan industrial cooperation.
