Becoming Lean (Workshop)

The Practical Route to Competitiveness

Given the tough financial conditions, it is essential that European companies raise their competitiveness and embrace “lean” approaches to all aspects of their business. The “Becoming Lean – the practical route to competitiveness” workshop was designed to encourage business transformation, based on first-hand testimonials from companies that attach great importance to lean solutions. It featured a keynote address on “The Toyota Way – leadership and respect for mutual benefit”, followed by 19 case studies from a wide range of industrial sectors.

c. 330 people, including alumni from the EU-Japan Centre’s activities, attended the “Becoming Lean” event, organised by Enterprise Ireland with the support of the Irish Department of Enterprise, Trade & Innovation and the EU-Japan Centre. It followed on from similar events held in 2004 and 2006. During the Opening Session, chaired by Tom Hardiman, Frank Ryan (CEO, Enterprise Ireland) and Richard Bruton, TD (Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation) gave the opening addresses and Richard Kenworthy (Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd.) gave the keynote address.
