Intercultural seminar in the EU (17 - 19 November 2010) “Business Strategy: Towards a Mutual Understanding of European and Japanese Practicesâ€
On 17-18-19 November 2010, the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, with the support of Centre Européen d'Etudes Japonaises d'Alsace CEEJA, organised an intercultural seminar “Business Strategy: Towards a Mutual Understanding of European and Japanese Practices†at the CEEJA premises in Kientzheim (Alsace, France), with workshop facilitators from a Japanese management consulting firm based in Europe, Japan Management Association Consultants - JMAC .
The instructor is the Japanese CEO of JMAC Paris.
The main objectives of the seminar were:
* To learn tools and techniques for developing a business strategy such as Market Analysis, Competitor Analysis, Strategy Option Development, etc.
* To share and reflect on specific European and Japanese factors in developing a business strategy.
* To practice strategy development in group work, using a case study.
The seminar highlighted the main business strategy techniques, applicable to both European and Japanese practices. It dentified potential solutions through lectures, case-study discussions, role-plays and problem-solving activities.
The seminar brought together European and Japanese managers based in Europe, interested in improving their business strategy skills regardless of cultural differences. The audience gathered about 13 EU and Japanese participants from both EU and Japanese companies. All the participants expressed very positive feedbacks that the exercise was very helpful for their daily business activities.

3rd Intercultural Management Workshop (5/12/2008)
Japanese Companies in Europe: developing high potential staff

This workshop focused on development of locally-employed staff with high potential and possibilities of creating global HR strategies by integrating Headquarter/European Office staff.
This workshop sought participation from both Japanese and European managers in order to consider mutual problems more effectively in a shared environment. The first half of the workshop comprised an initial talk followed by two practitioner presentations, based on their own experience. The second half consisted of a series of case studies for general discussion, assisted by a panel of the speakers, focused on issues relevant to maximizing efficiency and effectiveness in a multicultural workplace that requires an effective working partnership between Japanese and European skilled employees. The workshop was designed for Japanese and European senior line managers directly involved in day to day operations in Japanese affiliated companies. Intercultural Management in the Workplace

Joint managerial workshop designed for Japanese and European middle managers to discuss ways to improve communication and intercultural management issues in the workplace. Result Training & Consultancy (Dutch & Belgian partner of ITIM International Network), a leading culture and management consultant, facilitated the workshop by using its original 5-Dimensional Model to help participants increase their cultural awareness, insight, sensitivity and competency in operating in multicultural work and market places.
The workshop included discussions, group work and simulation practices amongst both European and Japanese managers, and it welcomed example-case input from the participants' daily issues, problems and experiences to deepen practical understanding.
