On December 15, the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (TOCOG) announced the winning bidder for the tender concerning "Preliminary design for renovation and construction of related facilities of the Athletes' Village" The contract was won by Space Design Architects Co., Ltd. The company, headquartered in Osaka, is small with only 18 employees and is not internationally active. As past achievements it primarily lists designs and retrofits of public facilities in the country.
As usual, the organising committee did not make public how many other companies took part in the competition.
