In the first part, this seminar offered an overview on the recent development of the Unitary Patent system in Europe, which will contribute in making the protection of inventions simpler and more effective by allowing applicants to protect their inventions in all EU countries by submitting one single patent application. The speakers discussed how the Unitary Patent system has been perceived by the applicants so far and how it is going to uniform patent protection among EU Countries.
In the second part, the seminar covered topics related to the growing adoption of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and applications. The impact of AI is now posing legal questions in terms of patents, trademarks, designs, and copyright. The speakers covered topics about AI-related inventions, their protection, and the potential changes that IP legal frameworks might need to experience. The seminar discussed the current situation from European and Japanese perspectives.
