FUNDED START-UPs: Japan and EU Perspectives webinar

March 22 2024

The main focus of the webinar is to highlight successful startup projects that have received public funding in Japan and the European Union.

JST SUCCESS: Contribute to achieving SDGs nationally and internationally via investment and hands-on support for start-up companies.

JST START: Follow the new enterprises starting from the pre-startup stage - ventures originating at universities and other research institutions - all the way to market viability.

The event will introduce Japanese companies that received funding from the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST SUCCESS and JST START) and capitalized on internalizing their assistance in their business operations and management. They will discuss how they have achieved success and what steps were required: how each stage posed new challenges and what solutions were found.

In addition, European company projects will be featured that - similarly to their Japanese counterparts - have received public funding via Horizon Europe and similar funding schemes.

The EIC Pathfinder programme supports the exploration of bold ideas for radically new technologies. It welcomes the high-risk / high gain and interdisciplinary cutting-edge science collaborations that underpin technological breakthroughs.

EIC Transition funds innovation activities that go beyond the experimental proof of principle in laboratory to support both the maturation and validation of your novel technology in the lab and in relevant application environments; and the development of a business case and (business) model towards the innovation’s future commercialisation.

The EIC Accelerator is a funding programme under Horizon Europe that offers support to start-ups and SMEs that have a innovative, game changing product, service or business model that could create new markets or disrupt existing ones in Europe and even worldwide; have the ambition and commitment to scale up; are looking for substantial funding, but the risks involved are too high for private investors alone to invest.
