Report: The Japanese Model for a Bioeconomy

About the Report:

This report titled "Japan’s model for a bioeconomy - a primer for European SMEs" introduces the current situation of the Bioeconomy sector in Japan. It first provides a description of Japan’s government strategy and its evolution over the past few years, and then gives a brief review of major technologies at the core of a future bioeconomy. Furthermore, the report presents products which are key to the future of this sector, including energy chemicals, biopolymers, other chemical bulk and speciality materials, and novel agricultural and food products. Moreover, the report develops on the major stakeholders such as industry, venture business and public-private partnerships, but also the stakeholders amongst the government ministries, academia, the national research centre RIKEN and other research centres. Finally, it presents various recommendations to EU companies for a successful market entry.
