Report: The Evolving Fintech Landscape in Japan

Consisting of numerous and diverse fast-growing segments, the fintech industry is fast becoming a vital industry across the world’s key markets. As a global technological leader, Japan is an emerging player in the fintech landscape. This report titled "Japan’s Evolving Fintech Landscape: Opportunities in Japan’s Ecosystem" aims to present the Japan’s fintech landscape and ecosystem, with an eye towards potential entry and investment opportunities for the European SMEs interested in doing business in Japan. This report provides an overview of the Fintech industry and takes a close look at its adoption in Japan and Worldwide. It then discusses the Japanese fintech landscape, presenting the Japanese vision of this sector, and focuses on the regulatory approach taken by Japan in the Fintech sector. Moreover, this report presents different bilateral researches in Fintech between Japan and the EU and elaborates on the project STELLA, a joint research collaboration between the ECB and the Bank of Japan. Lastly, this report provides various recommendations to EU companies for a successful market entry.
