Nikkei IT-news service website IT-pro reports that the Fujitsu Group expects to earn close to half a billion euro’s on government-issued contracts related to the introduction of ‘My number’.
‘My Number’ is the Japanese equivalent of the social and fiscal number, which is scheduled for introduction from January 1st, 2016. Adapting current government IT infrastructure to the new system has been underway since 2014 and is scheduled to continue for the coming years. Fujitsu expects it will be able to secure public procurement contracts issued by national and local governments in a two-year period (2014-2016) worth totaling 65 billion yen (€480 million) with more than half at the local and regional level. The Group estimates that the total spending by government institutions on the introduction of the ‘My Number’ system will be close to €1.1 billion and it hopes to increase its share as government IT-supplier from the current 30% to more than 50%. Also, the company expects to generate additional turnover from services to private sector businesses, which also will have to make adaptations to their IT infrastructure.
Fujitsu divides the process to prepare for the ‘my number’ system into four phases: Firstly October 2015 when the numbers are issued and companies will have to gather the numbers issued to their employees; January 2016, when the system comes into use for various procedures,; April 2016, when new employees are hired and September 2016 when preparations for the settling of the year end accounts start.
