Workshop: Japanese Clean Energy Market – Opportunities for EU SMEs-

February 25 2014

Tokyo

Overview “Clean & Green” Energy has become a paradigm today, overly present in strategic discourses, from the political arena to corporate boards. Beyond the rhetorics, there are business, innovation and economic growth opportunities that could be brought by “going green”. While the EU and Japan are at the forefront of this “green industrial revolution”, there is still a huge unexplored potential in terms of experience sharing, technological cooperation, and mutual investment in this area.  In this context, in the framework of the new “Minerva” Fellowship Scheme for policy analysts, launched by the EU-Japan Centre in 2013, Mr. Stijn Lambrecht (European Institute for Asian Studies/Brussels) undertook research on the Japanese clean energy market and the potential opportunities for EU SMEs. In this workshop, Mr. Lambrecht will present the results of his research and will propose an open debate on the industrial and market conditions for clean energy in Japan, the main obstacles and opportunities for the EU SMEs in this market, the type of incentives and support needed and the potential for further investment and technological cooperation in this field.
