EU and Japan conclude first review of their bilateral mutual adequacy arrangement
In their meeting on 4 April 2023, Ms. Mieko Tanno, Chairperson of the Personal Information Protection Commission of Japan (PPC), and Mr. Didier Reynders, European Commissioner for Justice, welcomed the successful conclusion of the first review of the Japan-EU mutual adequacy arrangement.
New Copernicus Cooperation Arrangement between the Commission and Japan
On 17 January 2023, Director-General Timo Pesonen of the Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space has signed, on behalf of the European Commission, a Copernicus Cooperation Arrangement with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan. The Arrangement was signed in the margin of the EU-Japan Space Dialogue taking place in Brussels the same week.
EU and Japan start negotiations to include rules on cross-border data flows in their EPA
On 24 October, the EU and Japan will formally begin negotiations to include rules on cross-border data flows in the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement. The EPA entered into force in 2019 but did not include provisions on cross-border data flows.
