Since 1987, the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation has a long history as a joint venture between the Japanese government (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) and the European Commission (DG Grow). It has become a general incorporated foundation in its legal status in Japan and breathed new life into both name and reality.

27th EU-Japan Business Round Table Annual Meeting - 16 April 2026

Brussels, 16 April 2026 - The 27th Annual Meeting of the EU-Japan Business Round Table took place in Brussels and online. It was co-chaired by Dr. Nobuhiro Endo (Executive Advisor, NEC Corporation) and by Jeremy Grossas (Representative Director & President, Merck Biopharma Japan who was standing in for Belén Garijo, Chair of the Executive Board and CEO of Merck and BRT co-Chair).

1st German-Japanese Leadership Dialogue
On 3 November 2025, senior executives from Japan and Germany met in Frankfurt am Main to discuss about economic security and the importance of deepening German-Japanese business relations.
The Second Meeting of the Japan-Germany Economic Security Consultations
On 14 October 2025, the second meeting of the Japan-Germany Economic Security Consultations took place in Tokyo. The establishment of this bilateral framework was confirmed by the Heads of Government in July 2024.
EU and Japan reaffirm close cooperation on trade and economic security
The EU and Japan reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening their cooperation on trade and economic security at their 6th High-Level Economic Dialogue (HLED) on 8 May 2025.

Handover of the BRT's 2025 Recommendations to EVP Séjourné

Brussels, 03 March 2025 - The BRT's Recommendations adopted at its 26th Annual Meeting were formally submitted to the European Commission. EC Executive Vice President Séjourné received them from Merck's Maike Asmussen and NEC's Mitsuhiro Murooka. Ambassador Aikawa from the Mission of Japan to the EU witnessed the handover.

Brussels, 03 March 2025 - The BRT's Recommendations adopted at its 26th Annual Meeting were formally submitted to the European Commission. EC Executive Vice President Séjourné received them from Merck's Maike Asmussen and NEC's Mitsuhiro Murooka. Ambassador Aikawa from the Mission of Japan to the EU witnessed the handover.

5th EU-Japan High Level Economic Dialogue
On the occasion of the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris of 2 May, Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice President of the European Commission for an Economy that Works for People, and European Commissioner for Trade, Ms. Kamikawa Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Mr. Saito Ken, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, held the 5th Japan-EU High-level Economic Dialogue.
Team Europe in Japan visits Kumamoto for exchanges with local stakeholders
On 8 and 9 February, European Union Ambassador to Japan Jean-Eric Paquet, together with 19 EU Member State Ambassadors, visited the city of Kumamoto in southwestern Japan for a series of meetings with local stakeholders on issues including security and economic security.
Submission of the EU-Japan Business Round Table’s 2023 Recommendations to the Japanese Government
On 16 February 2024, Nobuhiro Endo (Japan-side BRT Chair and Executive Advisor, NEC Corporation) and Christopher Thomas (Representative Director, President of Merck Ltd., Japan, representing Belén Garijo, EU-side BRT Chair) submitted the BRT’s 2023 Recommendations to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
