Vulcanus in Europe

To showcase the Vulcanus in Europe programme in action, the EU-Japan Centre interviewed two interns participating in the 2025–2026 edition.

On 7 November 2025, we were honoured to co-organise the first-ever official EU-Japan Vulcanus Networking Event with Ambassador Kazutoshi Aikawa and the Mission of Japan to the European Union.

On 24 March 2025, the Centre hosted a debriefing session for the Japanese science and engineering students who participated in the Vulcanus in Europe 2024 programme.

The EU-Japan Centre is excited to share an interview with Koki Ito, a student at Tohoku University, who recently completed an internship at Astellas Pharma Ireland as part of the Vulcanus in Europe programme, session 2024/25, and with his supervisor, Martin Mulready.

Following up on the interview with two Vulcanus in Europe* participants published in June 2023, we are glad to share some updates from Yudai Morita, a student at Tohoku University - Graduate School of Engineering, who carried out an internship at the Spanish company Vector Renewables.

On 6 September, the EU-Japan Centre had a great pleasure of hosting the "Vulcanus in Europe" alumni get-together in Tokyo.

The EU-Japan Centre is happy to present the 5th edition of interviews featuring individuals and organisations making EU-Japan collaboration a reality. In this edition, we introduce the stories of European companies participating in our long-run training programme for Japanese students called ‘Vulcanus in Europe’.
