China’s rare-earth magnet exports to Japan rose 9.7% in early 2026, but supplies of heavy rare-earth elements like dysprosium have declined amid tighter export controls. While overall exports remain stable, stricter regulations and increased scrutiny are making procurement more difficult for Japanese firms. China appears to be maintaining shipments of widely used light rare earths while tightening control over more strategic materials, reinforcing its dominance in the sector.
