Launch of AI Safety Institute

In response to the growing international interest in AI safety, the AI Safety Institute was launched on 14 February 2024 to examine the evaluation methods for AI safety and other related matters. The Institute will be established within the Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA), in collaboration with relevant ministries and agencies, including the Cabinet Office.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, will contribute to the activities of the AI Safety Institute by leveraging the knowledge and both domestic and international networks it has developed through the Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA) and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST).
