Report: How to Export to Japan (Medical Devices) - Quick Guide 2025

About the Report

The EU is one of the largest global producers of medical devices, and the biggest exporter with a trade surplus of 11 billion EUR in 2023. Japan is an essential trade partner ranking 3rd within the main destination countries of EU exports according to MedTech Europe.

EU manufacturers need to consider important market drivers when targeting Japan, such as the rapidly aging demography, the growing prevalence of chronic diseases due to changes in lifestyle, and the high reliance of the local market to imports.

However, accessing the Japanese market can be quite challenging as the procedures might be quite complex. Thus, this guide aims to provide a brief overview on aspects to be considered when exporting medical devices to Japan.
