Report: Onshore and Offshore Wind Market in Japan

About the Report

Japan is increasingly turning to wind energy, both onshore and offshore, as part of its broader efforts to diversify its energy mix, enhance energy security, and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Given its long coastline and strong wind resources, floating offshore wind in particular is emerging as a key pillar of Japan’s renewable energy strategy. The Japanese government has set an offshore wind power target (on a project formation basis) of 10 GW by 2030 and 30-45 GW by 2040.

The purpose of this report is to evaluate the current status of the onshore and offshore wind market in Japan. It offers insights into market trends and developments, specifically targeting EU-based small- and mid-sized companies that manufacture turbines and related products. These companies may be looking to enter the Japanese market or strengthen their existing presence in Japan. This report also aims to inform other stakeholders in the value chain, including exporters.
