In Europe & US, a market system centered on renewable energy has already been established and many players are developing various businesses to popularize net-zero electricity. Based on this situation, the institutional trends for activating the Japanese renewable power market and the efforts of European & US companies will be introduced for exploring the path of renewable energy power generation toward 2050 carbon neutrality in this webinar.

In this webinar, the presenter Mr. Hurtado who was directly involved in the establishment of the bill at the Directorate General of Taxation and Customs of the European Commission will talk directly about the mechanism of CBAM, the introduction schedule and scope, coordination with related countries and international organizations such as WTO.

Speaker Mr. Tanaka was involved in many international negotiations and economic partnerships while working for the government and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry for many years. He also played a leading role in Japan-EU EPA negotiations and industrial policy dialogue with the European Commission. This time, he will gives us some suggestions on what Japan's politics and economics must do and the industry should be like including the strengthening and expansion of the EU-Japan partnership. 

In this webinar, three electric power companies from the EU will talk about efforts for renewable energy and the specific business such as, 1) Business utilizing distributed power sources such as renewable energy and storage batteries, 2) Business related to resilience related to volatility of renewable energy and stable power supply, 3) Other new businesses(Digitalization, CCUS = Carbon dioxide Capture, Utilization and Storage technology, etc.) And after, panelists including Japanese IEEJ speaker, discuss the possibility of further development and cooperation of the electric power business in the EU and Japan.

The EU and Japan share an ambitious goal of 2050 carbon neutrality. In order to achieve this goal, industry needs innovation and business model transformation, and policy makers need policy and institutional leads to promote and support industry transformation. This webinar will identify common issues of industry and policy makers in both the EU and Japan, and explore the possibility of cooperation between both region and country.

The first part of this webinar will illustrate the results of the follow-up report by the EUIPO and the EPO covering the period from 2007-2019 into the role of IPRs by analyzing a representative sample of over 127,000 European firms from all 27 EU member states and the UK. In the second part of the webinar, we will go through the main supporting measures that the JPO provides to support SMEs, and startups which play a vital role in the world’s economy.

The purpose of this seminar is to have discussions/dialogues regarding sustainable finance with a view to making good, hopefully well-coordinated policy makings toward the common goal of carbon neutral by 2050.

In this webinar, Tokyo Kyodo Accounting Office (TKAO), which has an EPA consultation desk commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on the Japanese side and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Taxation and the Customs Union (DG TAXUD) which is the authority managing, defending and developing the EU's customs strategy, customs procedures and customs controls, will explain how to make good use of the EPA scheme in a Q & A format based on the experience of, and examples from, the past two years.
