Space. Japan Webinar: New Space for Environmental Sustainability

June 17 2022

Space.Japan, in collaboration with a new space firm from Italy, ARCA Dynamics hosted a webinar titled ‘New Space for Environmental Sustainability: Supporting Maritime and Space Traffic Management’ on June 17, 2022.

Followed by a brief introduction to the services provided by the Space.Japan Helpdesk by Luca Escoffier, EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, Daniele Luchena, ARCA Dynamics emphasized the significance of maritime and space traffic on the global political economy. In addition to utilizing nanosatellites, Luchena mentioned that the field of signal intelligence also utilizes satellite constellations and clusters of satellites to geolocate sources. Bringing the talking point from maritime traffic to space traffic, the increasing accessibility to space resources and skyrocketing number of satellites in the space orbit raises questions about the sustainability of this process.

Discussing new space solutions Luchena referred to space monitoring utilizing optical sensors as an effective procedure where objects of any size can be detected. He concluded that ARCA Dynamics provides observation and space traffic management services in a short time by utilizing multiple technologies. By 2025, ARCA Dynamics is going to deploy its first constellation where its ALPHA satellite will be a step toward new space technology for environmental sustainability.

Finally, Daniele Luchena also addressed questions regarding the deployment of nano-satellites, space debris detection, and the coverage of ARCA Dynamics services. With around 70 attendees in the webinar, during the Q&A session Luchena also expressed interest in collaborating with Japanese companies working towards space environment sustainability.
