July 03 2023 -> July 04 2023

Lean in Europe #30 - 03 & 04 July 2023 in Treviso

The 30th Lean in Europe visit was to FLY S.p.a., a company based in Grigno, Italy that does machining for the aeronautic, aerospace and energy industries. 15 participants from a range of industries (energy distribution, thermoplastics, prototype manufacturing, consulting, electronic assemblies for gaming machines, textiles, busbar trunking systems, biogas refining equipment and prefabricated timber building) took part in the visit.

A two-part pre-visit group activity took place on the evening of 3 July and featured introductions to Forgital Group and to Fly S.p.a., followed by a lean exercise.

The main site visit took place on 4 July. After explanations about what Fly does - range of components and production volumes, materials, main machining and assembly options, special processes, shop floor KPIs, its quality system, production planning there was a 'deep dive' on the manufacturing routing of two specific parts, one of which is well-established and the other which is in an 'entry-into-service' phase. Following a detailed tour of the shopfloor, participants gave their feedback and shared their takeaways and also suggestions for FLY..
