On April 9, the Japanese government organised its annual online Government Procurement Seminar. The seminar has been held for over 30 years as part of Japan’s voluntary measures to promote participation by overseas suppliers in government tenders regulated under the WTO Agreement on Government Procurement (GPA) and various EPAs.
During the seminar, Japan’s central ministries and their affiliated agencies announce their procurement plans for the coming year. Each ministry provides a briefing on the procurement of goods and services in general, with particular focus on telecommunications, computer products and services, and medical technology products and services.
For foreign suppliers, this early announcement of planned procurement can be helpful in preparing the necessary documentation required to participate in bidding procedures.
