EU-Japan cooperation

On 14 October 2025, the second meeting of the Japan-Germany Economic Security Consultations took place in Tokyo. The establishment of this bilateral framework was confirmed by the Heads of Government in July 2024.

The Japan’s Friendship Ties Program “MIRAI” (Mutual understanding, Intellectual Relations and Academic Exchange Initiative) invites groups of promising young leaders from Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus, who are expected to play an active role in international society. Apply by 15 October.

Following the success of the first EU-Japan Aviation Partnership Project (APP), conducted between June 2023 and December 2024, a new phase will run from July 2025 to June 2029 through a new EU-Japan APP.

The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union/Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Takeshi Iwaya held the second EU-Japan Strategic Dialogue on 4 April in Brussels.

On 12 May 2025, The EU and Japan held their third Digital Partnership Council in Tokyo to reinforce tech and digital cooperation between the EU and Japan.

The EU and Japan reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening their cooperation on trade and economic security at their 6th High-Level Economic Dialogue (HLED) on 8 May 2025.
