The 27th meeting of the EU-Japan Business Round Table (or “BRT”) will take place in Brussels on Thursday, 16 April 2026. Hosted by the European Commission and co-chaired by Belén Garijo (Chair of the Executive Board and CEO, Merck) and Nobuhiro Endo (Executive Advisor, NEC Corporation), the meeting is expected to focus on the prospects for EU-Japan cooperation in three areas – global trade, economic security and industrial competitiveness.
Senior representatives of the Japanese and EU Authorities will address the meeting. Stéphane Séjourné, European Commission Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy and Jean-Eric Paquet, Ambassador of the EU to Japan, are expected to be present. The meeting is also expected to adopt recommendations prepared by the BRT’s members on a wide range of issues – ‘Trade Relations, Investment & Regulatory Cooperation, Financial Services, Accounting & Taxation’; ‘Life Sciences and Bioeconomy, Healthcare and Well-Being’; ‘Digital Innovation & Mobility’; and ‘Environment & Sustainable Development’. The recommendations will be submitted to the EU and Japanese Authorities.
June’s edition of EU-Japan NEWS will include a full report on the outcome of the BRT annual meeting.
