Japan is positioning green ammonia as an important component of its long-term decarbonisation strategy, particularly in sectors where electrification remains challenging, including power generation, heavy industry and maritime transport. Under its Green Transformation (GX) policy and hydrogen strategy, and supported by initiatives from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI), Japan is advancing the development of international supply chains, demonstration projects and industrial applications for ammonia as a carbon-free energy carrier.
At the same time, Japan’s energy system reflects structural characteristics such as limited domestic renewable energy resources and a long-standing reliance on imported energy. In response, Japanese utilities, trading houses and industrial companies are actively pursuing international partnerships to develop and deploy technologies relating to green hydrogen production, ammonia synthesis, transport, storage and end-use applications. This evolving ecosystem creates strategic opportunities for European companies with specialised technologies, components and engineering capabilities that can contribute to the deployment of green ammonia at scale.
This webinar presents recent market and technology trends in Japan’s emerging green ammonia ecosystem, highlighting key drivers, major industry players and potential opportunities for European companies already operating in Japan or considering entry into the Japanese market.
The webinar is targeted at European companies seeking to explore or strengthen their engagement in Japan’s hydrogen and green ammonia sectors.
