EPA & Fisheries

About Fisheries:

The EU is the fourth largest producer worldwide, accounting for about 3.1% of global fisheries and aquaculture production. 80% of production comes from fisheries and 20% from aquaculture. Spain, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and France and are the largest producers in terms of volume in the EU. Japan is also an important actor in fisheries, and is still a world leader in terms of per capita fish consumption. With nearly 30,000 km of coastline, Japan’s geographical conditions are very favourable for fishing. Its 2017 fishery production totalled 4.30 million tonnes. The EU-Japan EPA represents new opportunities to EU companies seeking to export fisheries to Japan. Under the Agreement, all the fish products have been, or will be liberalised over time.
